2021 Cave Animal of the Year -
MSS – you’ve found the portal to a new life!
MSS is all about adventure in every sense of the word … squeezing through narrow limestone passages, abseiling into the deep, exploring unknown canyons, striking new paths through the bush or enjoying the luxury of a fine meal at a remote campsite - we're up for pretty much anything.
Adventure, however, is not always about the challenge. For MSS members, it is about sharing experiences with friends - it is often who you are with that makes the adventure even better. We pride ourselves on being a friendly club … welcoming everyone - from the tough-as-nails explorer to families with young children.
So, are you ready for adventure, are you up to the challenge? If so, check out the upcoming adventures on our calendar and Contact Us now!
International Year of Caves & Karst 2021 - Explore, Understand and Protect
Presented by the International Union of Speleology
Located around the world in the both the poorest and richest of countries, karst and caves are a natural feature formed over millions of years and the role that karst plays in our environment definitely warrants being highlighted. So, it’s very exciting that Karst and Caves are in the spotlight in 2021, the International Year of Caves & Karst
. The official website has links to a number of events coming up in the next 12 months – and these links offer us hours of viewing pleasure.
As recreational cavers, we are so excited to be going underground, that we often pass different karst features and don’t give them a second’s thought. However, the caves we explore are just a small feature of the extensive world of karst, the Virtual Opening of the International Year of Caves and Karst 2021 is a 1 hour YouTube video
that is a MUST SEE for both cavers and non-cavers. The video not only gives an overview of the International Union of Speleology but is packed with information on different karst features, the role that hydrology plays in karst, and the different types of caves that are located around the world. Definitely worth an hour of your time!
